Why Juz Amma comes first

A proud boy hugging the Quran beside a trophy and a stack of Qurans while his Hifz teacher claps on a laptop

Juz Amma holds most of the short surahs a child recites in Salah. Memorising it gives your child surahs to pray with, builds the habit of daily revision, and shows both of you whether full Hifz is the right next step.

The surahs are short, so children feel progress quickly — which matters more than anything for keeping them motivated.

The usual order

Three smiling children, two girls in hijab and a boy in a kufi, reading the Quran on rehals together

Most children start at the end of the mushaf and work backwards, because the last surahs are the shortest. The teacher adjusts the order and pace to your child:

  • Al-Fatihah first, if your child does not know it yet
  • The shortest surahs: An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Masad, An-Nasr, Al-Kafirun
  • Then working back through Al-Kawthar, Al-Ma'un, Quraysh, Al-Fil and onwards
  • Longer surahs such as An-Naba and An-Nazi'at come last

How each class works

A boy with headphones reciting the Quran into a microphone while his Tajweed teacher gives a thumbs up on a laptop

Hifz classes are 45 minutes, live and one-to-one, so there is time for all three parts of a good Hifz lesson: the new lesson (sabaq), recent revision (sabqi) and older revision (manzil). The teacher corrects Tajweed on every line, so mistakes are fixed before they are memorised.

Your child does a short revision at home between classes, and you get regular feedback on what has been memorised. Every class is supervised for teaching quality.

  • New lesson, recent revision and older revision in every class
  • Tajweed corrected as your child memorises
  • A short daily revision task for home
  • Progress feedback for parents

Does my child need to read the Quran first?

An open Quran with Arabic script

It helps, but it is not required. Children who cannot read yet can memorise short surahs by listening and repeating, while learning to read with the Noorani Qaida alongside. The teacher will suggest the right mix after the free classes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to memorise Juz Amma?
It depends on your child's age, how many classes a week they take and how much they revise at home. The teacher gives you a realistic estimate after hearing your child in the free classes, rather than promising a date beforehand.
What age can my child start?
From about 5, once they can sit for a lesson and repeat a verse back. Many younger children start with the shortest surahs only.
How long are the classes, and what do they cost?
Hifz classes are 45 minutes long, on the same monthly plans as every other course — from $39 a month (£30, €36) for 8 classes, with no extra charge for the longer class. The first 3 classes are free.
Do you teach Hifz with a female teacher?
Yes. Our female teachers are Hafizas, and you can choose a male or female teacher for the same fee.
Can I listen to the classes?
Yes, any class, without notice. Every class is supervised for teaching quality.
