Reads Arabic already? Tajweed is the next step

A girl in a hijab with headphones reciting the Quran on a rehal while her Tajweed teacher listens on a laptop

Children in Bahrain often read Arabic well from school, yet still make Tajweed mistakes: letters from the wrong point in the mouth, missing ghunnah, or long and short vowels mixed up. Reading Arabic and reciting the Quran correctly are different skills.

Children who can already read skip Noorani Qaida and start straight on Tajweed with real Quran pages. Children from non-Arabic-speaking homes start with Noorani Qaida and usually finish it in six to twelve months.
