The reason most sisters put this off

It is rarely a lack of interest. It is that the only options nearby are a mixed class, a hall full of children, or a course that assumes you can already read. So it gets postponed for another year, and then another, and the embarrassment of not being able to read properly at thirty-five quietly grows into a reason never to start.

A private class removes every part of that. There is no group. There is one female teacher, on a video call, who has taught adults who could not name a single Arabic letter. Nobody hears you make a mistake except the person whose job it is to correct it.

You will have a female teacher, and only a female teacher

Ask for a female teacher when you book and that is who teaches you, from the first free class onwards. The fee is exactly the same as for a male teacher — gender is a preference we honour, not an upgrade we charge for.

If the teacher is not the right fit — the pace, the manner, the accent — tell us and we will move you to somebody else. You do not need to explain why, and it costs nothing.

  • A female teacher from the first free class
  • Same fee as any other class
  • Change teacher at any time, free
  • Camera on or camera off — your choice

See how your child gets on — the first 3 classes are free.

Where you actually start

In the first free class the teacher listens to you read, whatever that sounds like, and places you honestly. A complete beginner starts on the Noorani Qaida: the twenty-eight letters, the sound each one makes, then joining them into words.

If you can already read but were never corrected, you will start on the Quran itself with Tajweed applied ayah by ayah. Most sisters in this position are surprised how much is nearly right and how few habits actually need fixing.

Fitting it around everything else

Classes are 30 minutes and run seven days a week, so the realistic slots are early morning before the house wakes up, the middle of the school day, or after the children are in bed. You choose the time and it stays the same each week.

If a week goes badly, tell us in advance and we move the class rather than losing it. Nobody is penalised for a difficult week.

What it costs, before you give us anything

Plans start at $39 a month for two classes a week and the whole table is published on the fees page. There is no registration fee. The first three classes are free and no card is taken at any point during them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will my teacher definitely be a woman?
Yes. Say so when you book and a female teacher is assigned from the first free class. If no female teacher is free at the time you want, we will offer you a different time — never a male teacher instead.
Do I have to put my camera on?
No. Many sisters keep the camera off and share only the lesson page. The teacher needs to hear you read, not see you.
I am 40 and can barely read. Is that unusual?
Not at all. A large share of our adult students begin at the very first letter, and several started in their fifties and sixties. The teacher has taught this many times and will not be surprised by anything you do.
How long before I can read the Quran?
That depends entirely on how often you practise and how many classes a week you take, and any academy that gives you a number before hearing you read is guessing. Your teacher will give you a realistic estimate after the free classes.
Can I learn alongside my daughter?
Yes, and many mothers do — separate classes so you each go at your own pace, scheduled back to back so it is one sitting. A family discount applies from the second student.
