What Tafseer Course covers
The Tafseer of the Quran Course teaches students to understand the meaning of what they recite, verse by verse, using established sources of Quranic explanation. Each lesson takes a passage and works through its word meanings, its context of revelation where reported, and the message it carries for the reader today. No Arabic fluency is required to begin; translations are used alongside key Arabic vocabulary.
The course is grounded in the classical tafseer tradition, drawing on well-known works such as Tafseer Ibn Katheer and Tafseer as-Sadi, presented by the teacher in plain English rather than assigned as dense reading. Students learn how scholars explain the Quran through the Quran itself, through the Sunnah, and through the understanding of the earliest generations, so they can tell careful interpretation apart from guesswork.
Study begins with the short surahs students recite most often in prayer, which immediately transforms the experience of salah, then moves into thematic and longer-surah study. Do I need to know Arabic to study tafseer?
No, this course is designed for non-Arabic speakers. Lessons are taught in English with translations, while key Arabic terms are introduced gradually. Students who later learn Arabic through our Arabic Language Course find their tafseer knowledge deepens naturally, but it is not a prerequisite.
