Eid al-Adha 2027: key dates

All dates are expected dates. They depend on the sighting of the moon and can be a day earlier or later in your country or community — follow your local mosque's announcement.

  • 1 Dhul Hijjah (the best ten days begin): Friday 7 or Saturday 8 May 2027
  • Day of Arafah (9 Dhul Hijjah): Saturday 15 or Sunday 16 May 2027
  • Eid al-Adha (10 Dhul Hijjah): Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May 2027
  • Days of Tashreeq: the three days after Eid

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are among the best days of the year for good deeds. For children, that can mean simple, doable things: extra dhikr (SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar), helping at home, giving charity, and fasting on the Day of Arafah for older children who are able to.

The story behind Eid al-Adha

Illustration of a flexible 24/7 class schedule

Eid al-Adha remembers the Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام, who was ready to give up what he loved most for Allah, and his son Isma'il عليه السلام, who trusted Allah too. Allah tested them and then provided a ram in Isma'il's place.

It is one of the most powerful stories to tell a child about trust, obedience and the love of Allah — and the reason families offer Qurbani and share the meat with relatives, neighbours and people in need.

Qurbani: involving your children

Explain what Qurbani is and why it is shared in three parts: for the family, for relatives and friends, and for people in need. Children can help decide where the family's share goes, or help deliver it.
