Why children go off Quran classes

Three smiling children, two girls in hijab and a boy in a kufi, reading the Quran on rehals together

When parents tell us their child no longer wants to go, one of these is usually behind it:

  • The lesson is too long, or at a time when the child is exhausted
  • Too hard: the child is stuck on the same page and feels they are failing
  • Too easy or too slow: in a group, a quick child waits and gets bored
  • Embarrassment: being corrected in front of other children
  • The relationship with the teacher is not working
  • They do not understand why they are learning, or what the words mean

How a fresh start helps

One-to-one changes most of these at once. Lessons are 30 minutes at a time you choose, the pace follows your child, and mistakes are corrected privately and kindly. The teacher starts from where your child actually is — even if that means going back a step to rebuild confidence.

If the teacher is not the right fit, you can change at any time, free, without needing to explain. Sometimes a different personality is all it takes.

  • Short lessons at your child's best time of day
  • Pace set by your child, not a group
  • Private, encouraging correction
  • Quick wins: a short surah or dua finished in the first weeks
  • Meanings explained, so the Quran feels personal

See how your child gets on — the first 3 classes are free.

What you can do at home

Alongside the class, small changes at home make a big difference:

  • Keep the class at the same time every week so it becomes routine, not a negotiation
  • Praise effort, not just progress
  • Let your child recite to a grandparent or teach you what they learned
  • Avoid using Quran time as a punishment or a threat
  • Read or listen to the Quran yourself where your child can see

Try three classes, no pressure

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I force my child to keep going?
Consistency matters, but forcing a class that is not working rarely helps. It is usually better to change the class — the time, the length, the teacher or the level — than to push harder.
My child has forgotten a lot. Will they have to start again?
Not from zero. The teacher hears your child read in the first class, revises what has slipped and moves forward from there.
Can I tell the teacher what went wrong before?
Yes, please do. It helps the teacher plan the first lessons around your child.
What does it cost?
Plans start at $39 a month (£30, €36) for 8 one-to-one classes, with no registration fee and all materials included. Siblings get a 10% family discount from the second child, and the first 3 classes are free.
