Start with what matters most

The short answer: look for live one-to-one classes, properly checked teachers, a free trial with no card, published fees, refund terms in writing, and the right to watch any lesson. Then use the trial to judge the teacher yourself.

Websites can all look alike. The questions below cut through that, and the answers are easy to check before you pay anything.

The parent checklist

Ask every academy you are considering:

  • Are classes one-to-one, or will my child be in a group?
  • How are teachers checked before they are hired?
  • Can I choose a female teacher, and does it cost more?
  • Who checks the teaching quality, and how?
  • Can I watch any lesson, without warning?
  • Is the trial genuinely free, with no card needed?
  • Are the fees published, and what exactly do they include?
  • What is the refund policy — in writing?
  • Is there a contract or minimum term?
  • Can class times change, including for Ramadan and travel?
  • How will I hear about my child's progress?
  • Can I change teacher easily if it is not working?

See how your child gets on — the first 3 classes are free.

Red flags

A young boy reading the Quran at home while his male teacher smiles from a live online class

Think twice before paying if you notice any of these:

  • A card is required for the “free” trial
  • Prices only given after you hand over your phone number
  • Pressure to pay for several months up front
  • No clear refund terms, or terms only given by phone
  • You are not allowed to watch lessons
  • Vague answers about who the teachers are or how they were checked
  • Promises of a finish date before anyone has heard your child read
  • The teacher keeps changing without explanation

Let the trial decide

Once an academy passes the checklist, the free classes show you what really matters: does the teacher listen closely, correct mistakes kindly, and keep your child reading? Does your child look forward to the next class? Try us alongside anyone else you are considering.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the most important thing to check?
Whether classes are one-to-one and whether you can watch them. Those two things tell you most about how much your child will actually read, and whether you can see the teaching for yourself.
Should I get the refund policy in writing?
Yes. Ask for refund, cancellation and missed-class terms in writing before you pay. Ours is a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first paid month, and the policy is published on our website.
Is a free trial enough to judge an academy?
It is the best single test. Over 3 classes you can see how the teacher corrects mistakes, how your child responds, and how well the academy communicates.
How are your teachers checked?
Every teacher's ID and certificates are checked, and they teach a demo class before they are hired. A female supervisor then checks every class for teaching quality.
Should I pay for several months to save money?
Be careful with long upfront payments. A monthly plan with no contract lets you stop if it is not working. We charge monthly and you can cancel any time.
What do your classes cost?
Plans start at $30 a month (£24, €28) for one 30-minute one-to-one class a week, with no registration fee and all learning materials included. Siblings get a 10% family discount from the second child, and the first 3 classes are free with no card needed.
