About this course
The Ten Qiraat Course teaches the ten canonical modes of Quranic recitation, each transmitted through an unbroken chain from the Prophet's companions to today's teachers. It is an advanced program for students who already recite with strong tajweed, usually in the reading of Hafs 'an 'Aasim, and now wish to study how the other authentic readings differ in pronunciation, elongation, and word forms.
Study begins with the framework of the science: what makes a reading canonical, the imams of the ten qiraat and their transmitters (ruwat), and the concept of usool, the recurring principles that distinguish one reading from another. Students then take up readings one at a time, beginning with those closest to what they already know, practising each until they can recite passages accurately in the new mode.
Because this discipline is transmitted person to person, every class is one-on-one with a teacher qualified in the qiraat being studied. Students recite, the teacher corrects to the standard of the transmission, and progress is logged reading by reading. Dedicated students may continue toward an Ijazah in one or more qiraat through our Ijazah Program.

Students broaden their study across the remaining readings and prepare for formal certification.
