Who Teaches Your Child? Our Quran Teachers, Their Qualifications and the Checks Behind Them

The short answer: at Online Quran Lessons your child is taught one-to-one by a named, qualified teacher, not an anonymous tutor. Our teachers include Hafiz-e-Quran, Aalims and Aalimas, three with university degrees in Islamic Studies from the University of the Punjab. Every teacher's ID and certificates are checked, and they teach a demo class before they are hired. A female supervisor checks every class for teaching quality, and parents can join and watch any lesson at any time.

The academy has been teaching online since 2018, with 500+ students in 15 countries and a team of 20+ teachers. These are some of the teachers families meet most often.

Our teachers

  • Usman (male) — Aalim, Hafiz-e-Quran. Teaches Quran Reading, Tajweed, Hifz, Islamic Studies. 7 years teaching the Quran.
  • Rahat (female) — Hafiza, Aalima, BSc Islamic Studies, University of the Punjab. Teaches Quran Reading, Tajweed, Hifz, Islamic Studies. 3 years teaching the Quran.
  • Sadia (female) — Hafiza, Aalima, MPhil Islamic Studies, University of the Punjab. Teaches Quran Reading, Tajweed, Hifz, Islamic Studies. 4 years teaching the Quran.
  • Qari Awais (male) — Hafiz-e-Quran, MPhil Islamic Studies, University of the Punjab. Teaches Tajweed. 4 years teaching the Quran.
  • Abdullah Ahmed (male) — Hafiz-e-Quran, Advanced Tajweed Certification, Quran Teaching Certification. Teaches Tajweed, Hifz, Islamic Studies. 10+ years teaching the Quran.

Families who prefer a female teacher, for daughters or young children, are usually matched with Rahat and Sadia. Families who want a male teacher often learn with Usman; Qari Awais focuses on Tajweed, and Abdullah Ahmed works with teenagers (12+), adults and advanced students. You can see each teacher's photo and profile on our teachers page, and ask for a teacher by name when you book.

What the qualifications mean

  • Hafiz-e-Quran / Hafiza: has memorised the whole Quran. A teacher who has been through Hifz knows the daily routine of new lessons and revision from the inside, which matters if your child starts memorising.
  • Aalim / Aalima: has completed the traditional multi-year course of Islamic studies (*Dars-e-Nizami* or equivalent), covering Arabic, Tafseer, Hadith and Fiqh. This is what lets a teacher answer a child's questions about belief and worship properly, not just correct their reading.
  • University degrees in Islamic Studies: a BSc or MPhil from the University of the Punjab adds formal academic study and experience of explaining ideas clearly in writing and speech.
  • Tajweed certification: shows the teacher has been trained and tested in the rules of correct recitation, which is what a Tajweed course is built on.

The checks before a teacher meets your child

Qualifications on paper are only the start. Before anyone teaches at the academy:

  • Their ID is checked, so we know exactly who they are.
  • Their certificates are checked, so the qualifications listed above are real.
  • They teach a demo class, so we can hear their recitation, see how they correct mistakes, and judge how patient and clear they are with a learner.

The checks during every class

  • A female supervisor checks every class for teaching quality. The supervisor is there to keep the quality of teaching high, not to teach your child.
  • Parents can join and watch any class, at any time during the lesson — no notice needed. You do not have to ask first.
  • Change teacher at any time, free. If your child does not settle with a teacher, tell us and we will match another one. You do not have to give a reason.
  • The same teacher every week. Your child is not passed between tutors, so the teacher learns how they read and what they find difficult.

What you can check yourself in the free trial

During the free trial classes, watch for three things: how much of the lesson your child spends reading aloud, whether the teacher corrects each mistake straight away and kindly, and whether the teacher can tell you clearly where your child should start. Our guide on questions to ask in a free trial class has a full checklist.

If you would like to meet one of these teachers, book 3 free trial classes and say who you would like to learn with. No card is needed.
