IMPORTANCE OF QURAN:
Importance of Quran cannot be neglected as it is the sole book of guidance for mankind till eternity. It comprises the set of rules defined by Allah Himself according to which a Muslim should spend his life if he wants to receive Allah’s blessings.
In total there are four books sent by Almighty Allah – Taurat, Zabur, Injil and Quran, and out of all four of these books, only the Holy Quran exists in its original form as Allah Himself has taken the responsibility of preserving it.
It is not only a source of guidance but also a reminder and a spiritual healer. It serves as a criterion to distinguish between the moral and the immoral, ethical and unethical, the good and the evil. It helps the Muslims revert from their lower passions to the higher aspiration of devoting their life to serve Allah and surrender to His will. It presents a personal relationship with Allah that elevates the soul and frees he mind from worldly desires.
It serves as a guideline for social change built upon social justice, economic equity, racial harmony, human rights and dignity. It calls upon the Muslims to stand with the virtuous and struggle against what is wrong, evil and unjust.
The Holy Quran is a road map for humans around the world. It is a guideline for those who want to earn immense rewards in this world and the hereafter. It is the “chart of life” for every man and the “constitution” of the Kingdom of heaven on Earth. To learn How to read Quran online please visit Online Quran Lessons. The Quran is, for mankind, a compass in the turbulent voyage of life, as it has explained itself in the following verses:
. . . INDEED, THERE HAS COME TO YOU LIGHT AND A CLEAR BOOK FROM ALLAH; WITH IT ALLAH GUIDES HIM WHO FILL FOLLOW HIS PLEASURE INTO THE WAYS OF SAFETY AND BRINGS THEM OUT OF UTTER DARKNESS INTO LIGHT BY HIS WILL AND GUIDES THEM TO THE RIGHT PATH.
[QURAN 5:15-16] The Holy Quran is a universal guide limited not only to the Muslims or a particular sect of Muslims alone, rather it is a message for the believers and non-believers alike. There are many verses in the Holy Quran which have been addressed to the non-Muslims and to entire mankind as a whole.
THIS QUR’AN HAS BEEN REVEALED TO ME THAT I MAY WARN YOU AND WHOMEVER IT MAY REACH.
[QURAN 6:19] In Surah Al-Qalam it is said that:
IT IS NOTHING BUT A REMINDER TO THE WORLD.
[QURAN 68:52] In total there 513 addresses to all humans, made in the Holy Quran. This proves the universality of the divine message in the Book of Allah.
IMPORTANCE OF SUNNAH:
Sunnah is referred to as the acts done by or approved by the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The acts recommended by the Holy Prophet ﷺ are also referred to as Sunnah.
The importance of Sunnah in Islam cannot be overlooked as it is the practical demonstration of the teachings of the Quran. One cannot understand the message that Allah has conveyed in the Quran unless he takes reference to the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
The Holy Prophet ﷺ is superior to all humans. The way that He ﷺ has lead his life is a guidance for all mankind. His ﷺ way of living is the lifestyle that is also praised by Allah. Thus anyone who wishes to please Allah should also try to adopt the life style of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. As it is said in the Holy Quran:
THERE HAS CERTAINLY BEEN FOR YOU IN THE MESSENGER ﷺ OF ALLAH AN EXCELLENT PATTERN FOR ANYONE WHOSE HOPE IS IN ALLAH AND THE LAST DAY AND (WHO) REMEMBERS ALLAH OFTEN
[QURAN 33:21] Being ordinary Muslims it is impossible for us to model our lives exactly according to the Life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ but it is mandatory for us to try. Allah values the true efforts a person puts in and rewards him with His contentment and blessings. He has stressed the obligation of showing complete obedience and submission to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that is to follow His ﷺ Sunnah in many verses of Quran:
AND WHATSOVER THE MESSENGER (MUHAMMAD ﷺ) GIVES YOU, TAKE IT, AND WHATSOEVER HE FORBIDS YOU, ABSTAIN (FROM IT), AND FEAR ALLAH. VERILY ALLAH IS SEVERE IN PUNISHMENT
[QURAN 59:7] It has been made clear in the Quran that the purpose of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is not merely to deliver Allah’s message rather to explain it as well therefore He ﷺ has used His ﷺ life as a practical demonstration of the message conveyed in the Quran. As said in the Quran itself:
AND WE HAVE REVEALED UNTO THEE THE REMEMBRANCE THAT THOU MUST EXPLAIN TO MANKIND THAT WHICH HATH BEEN REVEALED FOR THEM, AND THAT HAPLY THEY MAY REFLECT.
AND WE HAVE REVEALED THE SCRIPTURE UNTO THEE ONLY THAT THOU MUST EXPLAIN UNTO THEM THAT WHEREIN THEY DIFFER, AND (AS) A GUIDANCE AND A MERCY FOR A PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE.
[QURAN 16:64] The Holy Quran which we consider to be the biggest source of guidance itself advices us to follow in the footsteps of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ:
BUT NO, BY THE LORD, THEY CAN HAVE NO (REAL) FAITH, UNTIL THEY MAKE THEE JUDGE IN ALL DISPUTES BETWEEN THEM, AND FIND IN THEIR SOULS NO RESISTANCE AGAINST THY DECISIONS, BUT ACCEPT THEM WITH THE FULLEST CONVICTION.
SO JUDGE BETWEEN THEM BY THAT WHICH ALLAH HATH REVEALED, AND FOLLOW NOT THEIR DESIRES, BUT BEWARE OF THEM LEST THEY SEDUCE THEE FROM SOME PART OF THAT WHICH ALLAH HATH REVEALED UNTO THEE. AND IF THEY TURN AWAY, THEN KNOW THAT ALLAH’S WILL IS TO SMITE THEM FOR SOME SIN OF THEIRS. LO! MANY OF MANKIND ARE EVIL-LIVERS.
[QURAN 5:48] Thus the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ go hand in hand, each being incomplete without the other.
